A Face Lift is performed to reduce the signs of aging & restore a rejuvenated natural-looking appearance. A face lift may be done in combination with other surgeries including: a Brow lift (Forehead lift), Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery), or Submentalplasty (Neck lift).
The incision is made above the hairline at the temple and continues in front of the ear. It terminates behind the earlobe. The skin is then separated from the underlying fat. This fat is trimmed and/or suctioned away to improve the contour of the face. Dr. Wayment then tightens the facial muscles and pulls the skin back. Some of the excess skin may be removed. Drains may or may not be inserted to collect extra fluid. Sutures are used to close the incision, and metal staples are used to reattach the skin to the scalp. The surgery usually lasts four to six hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.
A compression wrap is applied and worn for several days to reduce swelling and bruising. Drains are usually removed within forty-eight hours. Sutures and staples will be removed within five to ten days. Activities are modified for six weeks.
Eyelids are the first to show signs of aging. This surgery corrects the sagging upper eyelids and/or the bags that form under the eyes. A Blepharoplasty helps to open the eyes and give the face a fresher, more youthful look.
An incision is made along the natural creases of the upper eyelid, and/or directly under the lower eyelashes. The skin is then separated from the underlying tissue and excess fat, muscle, and skin are removed. The skin is sutured back in place. The surgery usually lasts one to two hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.
Antibiotic Ointment is applied to the eyes. Ice packs are used for the first twenty four hours to reduce bruising and swelling. Sutures are removed five days after surgery. Activities are modified for six weeks.
A Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty is another type of eyelid surgery where the surgeon makes an incision inside the lower eyelid and removes pockets of fat, but no skin. This is ideal for someone who has less pronounced fatty pockets under the eyes.
Antibiotic Ointment is applied to the eyes. Ice packs are used for the first twenty four hours to reduce bruising and swelling. Sutures are removed five days after surgery. Activities are modified for six weeks.
A Brow Lift, also known as a Forehead Lift is performed to minimize the creases that develop over time across the forehead and reposition a sagging brow. It also improves what is commonly known as frown lines and deep grooves that occur high on the bridge of the nose.
Dr. Wayment performs a brow lift using an Endoscope (surgical video device) along with special surgical instruments that are placed through small incisions in the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle below the skin to be lifted, repositioned or removed, correcting the visible creases and deep grooves in the forehead. Endotines (small absorbable fixator) are placed near the temples to hold the forehead in place.
Correction of a sagging brow may also be performed with or without an endoscope through incisions at the temples and in the scalp.
Another technique is the Coronal Brow Lift. The Coronal Brow Lift can focus on specific regions of the brow to correct. This technique involves an incision from one ear to the other, lifting the forehead and removing excess skin from the scalp.
With all the procedures the incision lines are well concealed within the hair or natural contours of the face unless they are placed at the hairline to shorten the forehead. Surgery length varies depending on which procedure is performed. All of these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
Dressings are applied to the incisions. A head wrap is placed and worn for two weeks. Sutures will be removed within ten days. Endotines (small absorbable fixator) are self absorbing over a period of six months. Activities are modified for six weeks.
A Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet a person's aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes to correct trauma, birth defects or breathing problems.
An incision is made inside the nostrils. Sometimes, an incision is also made across the skin that separates the nostrils. The surgeon separates soft tissues of the nose from the underlying structures, and then reshapes the cartilage and bone. Sometimes, the surgeon will shape a small piece of the patient's own cartilage or bone to strengthen or change the structure of the nose. The incisions are sutured back together. The surgery usually lasts three to four hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.
If the patient has internal stents, they are placed at the end of the surgery and removed within one to three weeks. An external splint is applied and can be removed after one week. Sutures are removed in about a week. Activities are modified for six weeks.
For many patients, the traditional face lift may not adequately address the upper cheek and lower eyelid areas of the face. So, often a mid face lift is performed. Minimal incisions are made in the hairline to raise the sagging cheek tissues, giving a more youthful appearance to the cheekbones and reduce Nasolabial laugh lines around the mouth. This procedure may be performed in combination with an Endoscopic Forehead Lift. Dr. Wayment can discuss your individual needs. Please contact our office for more information.
A Submentalplasty or Neck Lift is performed on a person who has fat deposits on the undersurface of the chin region with laxity of the skin. Tightening of the muscles and Liposuction are performed with minimal scarring. A Neck Lift may be performed along with a face lift or other procedures. Please contact our office for more information.
Otoplasty, or Ear Contouring can improve the shape or positioning of the ears. They can be reduced in size. If the ears protrude more than normal, they can be repositioned closer to the head. Otoplasty can also correct asymmetrical ears. Please contact our office for more information.
Fat Grafting takes excess fat from one area and injects it into sagging places on the face and body. Fat Grafting will help restore slack eyebrows and upper eyelids, loose lower eyelids, drooping skin on the chin and jaw line. It also can enhance the lips, minimize the creases running down from the corner of the mouth (Nasolabial Crease), and reduce dimpling areas. Please contact our office for more information.
